Vikram Bhatt’s Production house to launch his own app and create content for the same.

19 Dec

Vikram BhattAce Director and Indian Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt who is known for his work in films, television and the digital space, adds another feather to his hat. Vikram Bhatt is all set to launch his own video on-demand app and his production house ‘Loneranger’ will produce content for this mobile platform.

LONERANGER Productions Pvt. Ltd was established in 2016 to venture into the digital space and instantly gained success because of the popular series produced under the banner such as Gehraiyaan, Maya, Twisted. The production house since its establishment has produced web content and films for digital space, via YouTube and also outsourced content for the Viu application.

In January 2017, VB on the Web, a YouTube platform to showcase the content was commenced and found instant success amongst the audiences with the shows, which were released on the platform. Now taking their digital endeavors further Vikram Bhatt is all set to launch his own ‘VB-Theatre on the web’ app on 27th January 2018 that also marks his birthday.

With this development, the production arm is now geared up to further their imprints in the digital world with the launch of an OTT platform. The app will witness the launch with an original series ‘Untouchables’, which is already in production. This show ‘Untouchables’, directed by Krishna Bhatt and starring Vikram Bhatt himself, will premiere on the OTT platform and shall be followed by ‘Twisted 2’ directed by Anupam Saroj Santosh, stars Nia Sharma in this sequel too. ‘Twisted’ that was put together by the same team, was a great hit in the web world.

What makes this app unique in the market is their subscription module. In this app one can subscribe to the entire app or would have to pay for the shows they would want to watch. This is the first time in India that the viewers would get to pay for particular shows only which they desire to watch and not the entire application. With this, Vikram Bhatt wishes to bring about a change in the digital space and give a choice to the viewers.

Speaking about this Director, producer, and scriptwriter Vikram Bhatt said, ”The move to digital space was obvious, since  everything was moving onto digital. Music was the first thing to move online, books and retail have also gone online in a big way.  It was only a matter of time before Cinemas went online as it offers people the choice to watch their favourite entertainment on the move!    It started with monthly subscription based apps. However the app we are launching is unique. Its actually a multiplex on your phone. So when you download the app, you don’t have to subscribe, you get various shows and each and every show has a ticket price of its own, very much like a multiplex theatre.  You pay for the show you want to watch, making it more affordable and advisable to all.”

This platform will be commercially launched on the 27th of January, 2018

FICCI FRAMES-2017 – Lack of cinema screens, piracy, high ticket prices at multiplexes & new movies on TV reducing the number of footfalls in cinemas houses

29 Mar

Is Bollywood in trouble? Will Hollywood and Regional take over? Is Indian Cinema in any kind of trouble?

Piracy, high pricing of tickets at multiplexes. lack of cinema screens and new movies being broadcasted on television three months after release have reduced the number of footfalls in the cinemas considerably and was making it difficult to raise the market share.

However, there is good news yet !  The emergence of digital platforms has opened new vistas for monetization for movies.

Even though regional cinema is being aggressively promoted by state governments by way of various sops, Bollywood  can benefit if we could raise the TV viewing window of new movies to six months instead of the current three months.   Lack of screens in the country and high price of tickets coupled with the fact the audience for Hollywood movies was increasing and giving a tough competition to Hindi cinema.   Models were being worked upon to maintain a balance.

The solution is simple, we need a strong trade bodies to combat piracy and with the help of committed and passionate producers and stakeholders to push the agenda,  Piracy can be reduced by the cause being championed by effective global leaders who could take the fight ahead.

Also if all types of cinemas are marketed and given due visibility as is the case with big budgeted films, the audience who are alienated by multiplies as they were removing a certain type of cinema for which there was an audience base, we will experience more footfalls in the theatre.
