Saif Ali Khan gets candid in conversation with CNN’s Talk Asia host Anna Coren

saif aliThis month on ‘Talk Asia’, CNN meets Bollywood’s top actor, Saif Ali Khan. In an honest yet endearing discussion with CNN’s Anna Coren in Mumbai, the 48-year-old actor opens up about his 25-year old Bollywood career, exploring newer platforms like Netflix and raising his son Taimur in the media spotlight with his Bollywood superstar wife Kareena Kapoor.

Khan also speaks about his relationship with his late father Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and his thoughts on inter-faith marriage in today’s day and age. He vividly reminisces about his growing up years where he describes himself as “unpredictable, rebellious and non-traditional”

On his memories of his father, legendary cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan: 

‘’I imagine very often you’ll find famous superstars who mean a lot of things to other people, sometimes mean less to their own children, because it’s hard to balance. But he was everything to us and he’s really one of the most ultimate people I have met.’’

On growing up in Bollywood:

‘’There was a time as a kid I was a bit rebellious and unpredictable. But now, everything has settled down so well and I feel wiser and a little enlightened. I think maybe it comes from the reading or thinking, or endless hours sitting around waiting for a shot and contemplating stuff. It has led to a certain amount of comfort and understanding and peace.’’

On his son, Taimur, with actress and wife Kareena Kapoor:

‘’Our job is to keep him balanced. I think Indian parents like us, like my parents, have a slightly tough time trying to put good moral values and basic family values into kids who grow up with too much attention. And it is possible. So, we hope that he’s going to grow up fine and we’re very conscious of it.’’

Dadasaheb Phalke Awards, Mumbai 2018 winners.

 

Mumbai-based Dadasaheb Phalke Foundation honored the celebs for their contribution towards the growth and development of Indian Cinema and television.

It was a starry affair and Meet bros aka Manmeet & Harmeet Singh, Bollywood Music Director duo bagged the ‘Dada Saheb Phalke International Film Festival 2018’ award for best performers live on stage.

Jayas Kumar (popularly known as Chote Bhagwan) was one of the favorite contestant in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, lil champs 2017 while he was 5 years old. He was winning hearts for his innocence and talent that he holds within, especially when he sang ‘Channa Mereya’ on the stage.

The young star was celebrating his 7th birthday on 21st April as his parents (Mr. Rajeev Kumar & Suruchi) threw a surprise birthday for him and invited his close friends, relatives, Sa Re Ga Ma Juries & Aditya Narayan.

The night also witnessed the launch of the single by Jayas Kumar along with his website, adding charm to the celebrations. The guests were mesmerized when Jayas started singing the new singles and was dancing to the tunes of his songs.

Maria Goretti visits stalls by students at India Cake FestivalMUMBAI: The third edition of India Cake Fest – 2018 was held at Sheila Raheja Institute of Hotel Management (SRIHM), Bandra and inaugurated by Celebrity chef Maria Goretti.   The event which is conceptualized and managed by Enquo Experiential Communications in association with SRIHM invites baking enthusiasts including students, home bakers & professionals to participate in workshops to learn new trends in cake industry and also participate in various contests where you can showcase your skills in cake making.

The home bakers went head-to-head at the cake decoration competition with the theme ‘Destination’. There were enthusiasts participating from various regions. Varshita who traveled all the way from Bangalore for this festival said “Besides being a home baker, I have done a course in Fashion Designing, so I wanted to combine both & create something exclusive. Paris is my dream destination and the mecca for both the baking industry and fashion, I’ve added these little details on my cake like the macrons, Eiffel Tower, a Coco Chanel bag’.

The festival provided an opportunity to future chefs to showcase their talents and at the cake flea market students had set up stalls with some delectable array of yummy cakes & accompaniments. On display were varieties of cakes-Indian fusion cakes, healthy treats, French desserts, chocolate garnishes, eggless bakes, eggless desserts, healthy treats, pet bakes and more.

The students were also put to test at the dessert plating competition where they served delicious savory dishes to the judges. Workshops & Meet ‘n Greet were also conducted for food lovers and enthusiasts by celebrity chefs and mentors like Ranveer Brar, Rakhee Vaswani, Maria Goretti, Rushina Munshaw, Varun Inamdar, Anees Khan, Ruhee Bhimani, Yogesh Utekar, Divya Ranglani, Hanumanta Dhotre, Nicholas Fernandes, Aakanksha Arora, Siddhi Shetty and others.

The 2-day event hosted a panel discussion on ‘’Scale Your Passion’’, which spoke about all aspects of baking. Christina D’souza stood first amongst the Home Bakers for Cake Decoration competition. And in the student’s category, it was SRIHM which took number #1 position, finally beating the 2 years’ winning trend of a Pune based college.

Indian Makeup artist Kakali to introduce Swan Makeup technique.

One such newsmaker in the field of makeup is India’s celebrity make up artist Kakali Meghani, who is looking at introducing the global trending Swan Eye Makeup in a glamourous  backdrop of a beauty fashion show.

Kakali Meghani has been a popular choice amongst Bollywood divas for their make up in recent times.  So it was only inevitable, she start the trend of something different in the glam industry.

In a recently held press conference, Kakali presented glimpse of her upcoming Fashion event ‘SWAN’.  This concept of make up style originated in Russia with the famous Swan Lake Ballet.

Manushi Chhillar wins Miss World 2017 -celebrating a six time win for India at this pageant!

This svelte Indian beauty is the sixth  winner  of the title since Priyanka Chopra won it in 2000 and previous to that Yukta Mookhey, Diana Haydon, Aishwarya Rai and Reita Faria were the winners of the title.  All of who and other dignitaries and celebrities came forward to express their delight and congratulate Chhillar on her win.

Chhillar 20, is a medical student from Haryana.  She is born to doctor parents and has  studied in St. Thomas School in New Delhi and Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat.

Chhillar competed against 118 contestants from various countries at a glittering event held at Sanya City Arena in China.

Chhillar was handed the crown by last year’s winner, Stephanie del Valle of Puerto Rico, at the ceremony. Stephanie Hill of England and Andrea Meza of Mexico finished as runners-up.

According to Chhillar’s profile on the Miss World website, she aims to be a cardiac surgeon and wants to open a chain of non-profitable hospitals based in rural areas.

The film stars versatile actress Raveena Tandon and newcomer Ashish Bisht along with Sanjay Suri, Simon Frenay amongst others. Shab is directed by seasoned director Onir and produced by Sanjay Suri and Onir.

The Philosopher Saint Shri Dnyaneshwara World Peace Prize-2017, given on behalf of World Peace Center (Alandi), MAEER’s MIT World Peace University, Pune, India was conferred upon the HON’BLE ELDER D. TODD CHRISTOFFERSON, Member of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints – Mormon Community, Utah, (USA), in appreciation and recognition of his great yeomen service for championing the Noble Cause of Human Welfare, Communal Harmony and Universal Brotherhood through his unique mission to promote the Culture of Peace in the World.

The conferment ceremony took place at the Swami Vivekananda Mandap at Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University. The Chief Guest at this program was Dr. Michael Noble, Ex-President, Noble Charitable Trust. The award consisted of a golden replica of Saint Shri Dnyaneshwara, a gold medal, certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 5,25,000/- (Five Lakh Twenty Five Thousand Rupees).

Our church is grateful to be part of India’s rich diversity of faith traditions. Religion defines and sustains us. For billions of believers it is who we are and how we live. But religion also benefits Nations, communities and policy makers who seek to establish peace and lasting prosperity for all people of all faiths. Religion has a significant effect on national prosperity. Study shows that religion fosters trust, a necessary ingredient for social Cohesion and economic growth. Religious people trust others more. They trust the legal system and government more, they are less willing to break the laws. Trust is an essential element of any well-functioning economy. Religious people are far more trusting than those with merely a secular point of view. Religious people and Institutions are powerful source of humanitarian assistance. People of faith are 40% more likely than non-religious people to give money to Charity and twice as likely to volunteer their services to community organisations. Religious freedom facilitates other types of freedom. Studies have shown that societal restrictions on religion increases interstate conflicts. The Christian community in India, although a minority, generally enjoy safety and peace to develop and contribute to Indian society as well as other faiths in India.”

Dr. Michael Nobel said, “The Nobel Prize in peace is generally considered by the world as the ultimate accolade for peace efforts. But there are other prestigious awards and one of them is the World Peace Prize given by MIT World Peace University and is considered as the foremost peace activity award in this country. The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints is unique in several regards. The areas in which the organisation excels are they assure peace and Unity within family structures. They hava a strict imposition of honour codes in which no gambling, smoking or drinking is allowed, it is also a great range of scope of humanitarian efforts on a worldwide scale and their expensive and practical work with refugees to ensure their livelihood and possibilities of survival in a foreign country is commendable.”

Babasaheb Purandare said, “Today is an auspicious day as we are felicitating a senior and wiser man like Elder D. Todd Christofferson. His name starts with the world ‘elder’ and ends with the word ‘son’. The power of both the words can be seen within him. If pasaydan is written under the logo of any other religion it will sound the same and will relate itself appropriately to that religion. This is the beauty of pasaydan. We should love the world. The world ‘love’ truly resembles religion.”

Vishwanath Karad said, “We are delighted to honour Elder D. Todd Christofferson with the World Peace Prize. He has dedicated his life to the service of the society. Today we have come for common cause to promote peace and culture in this world. This is a small beginning. This institution has followed the steps of Swami Vivekananda. iVoluteer makes a difference in the lives of the senior citizen !

4February the month of love, celebrates Valentine’s Day with aplomb around the world.  It marked a special importance this year at iVolunteer across Seven cities. An unconventional approach of involving volunteers to celebrate this day with senior citizens which will be cherished for a long time! The response was massive with a participation of more than 91 volunteers who made this event successful.

The mission was to involve volunteers by sharing their time, skills and passion to promote India’s social development was achieved efficiently by reaching out to a wider audience both online and offline.

The goal was to break the stereotype of celebrating valentines day with people other than  partners and was received well by people in all the seven cities.

Following were the details of the plan that was executed to gain maximum engagement:

  • #BeMyValentine as a hashtag was used to promote the campaign, so people can share this day with senior citizen and make them feel special.
  • Activities like dancing, singing and making paper bags with the help of volunteers was promoted both online and offline.
  • Considering the activities across all seven cities i.e. Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore, participation was at its peak as every individual contributed equally.

All India Digital Skill Mission: Kashmir to Kanyakumari

The mission was launched by Union Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu with an aim to promote Internet-based careers.

This mission is the brainchild of its core team members: Kapil Anand, Sai Ramesh, Jay Paudyal, Pawan Kumar, Yogesh Mankani, Sachin Bharadwaj and Vinay Mehra who joined the mission from Amritsar. They are all experts in their respective fields and share their passion for imparting knowledge of the digital world to others.

The sole purpose of the All India Digital Skill Mission is to promote internet-based career opportunities among the youth of the country. More than 15 workshops, seminars, and talks were held in colleges, schools including NITs, IITs, and IIMs, covering a variety of topics. Some of which include blogging, digital marketing, entrepreneurship, and e-business. Digitalisation and related government schemes were also discussed to empower people and help them understand the importance of internet skills in this day and age.

So far, 20+ bloggers meet is done and have traveled through 26+ cities and hundreds of villages. During the workshops and bloggers meet, the team is also giving away premium tools, hosting and domains, free of cost, worth 4 crore INR.

The mission involves traveling 20,000 kilometers in two months, across the length and breadth of the country in Tempo Traveller by road. Currently, the team has reached Kanyakumari, completing 50% of the journey, and plans to continue to the north-eastern part of the country.

‘No Shave November’ campaign to benefit cancer patient.

The cause is initiated by MonishChandan, a famous blogger from Mumbai who deeply supports the cause and feels the need to give back to the society in a constructive way. This event aims to help cancer patients and amplifies understanding that one out of ten households has a cancer victim or a survivor. Due to the fast paced & changing lifestyles, there is an ever increasing case of cancer in our society.

To take this initiative forward, an event was organized on 3rd December at Punjab Grill, Andheri West. A panel discussion was held to understand about cancer & how it is affecting our lives.

Our Emcee for the day, Samaira Wallani kept the audience enthralled & made the cancer surviving kids dance & sing during the event.

The panel discussion was led by Maria Vasudevan- Clinical Hypnotherapist, Shiraz Siddique- Cancer Survivor, Ankeet Dave- Executive Director – Access Life Foundation  & Ms. Ritu Gorai – CCO of JAMMS a popular Moms group in Mumbai and moderated by Sayanti Banerjee.

Monish Chandan, Campaign head says “My initiative is to raise funds, educate & research for Cancer & spread the awareness.  If you believe it we can do it, nothing is impossible. That’s what I think one should help and support and give back to the society. The first step to beat Cancer is to accept that it us just an illness and not a death sentence”
While Ankeet Dave , Executive Director , Access Life Foundation says “Access Life is a non-profit organization, committed towards working with children diagnosed with cancer or undergoing cancer treatment and making a difference in their lives. The mission of Access Life is to offer a home-like environment for these families and try to improve the quality of life of these children by providing practical support services, educational resources and recreations programs”

While Shiraz Siddique , Cancer Survivor says ““We feel that cancer is economically, emotionally, physically debilitating disease. It takes entire team of people with the patient to fight the disease. It is important to have such groups and events that can raise funds for pre-post-during the treatment and provide basic amenities like food, clothing and shelter to outstation cancer patients. Such patients find it difficult to find proper places to stay and also have hygienically cooked healthy food to eat due to monetary problems. Other important aspect is that sharing of experience of cancer treatments helps others to remove fear from heart and fight the disease better as well as recover fast.”

Ritu Gorai, CCO of JAMMS says “JAMMs network is a multi award winning support group for mothers in Mumbai… We connect online, meet offline and engage in various charity interventions. NSN was a great initiative and we were happy to associate with this noble cause to create more awareness about cancer”

The panel discussion was followed by live music performance by talented duo performers Vilas Nikam and Ashutosh Virendra from Shankar Mahadevan Academy and closing act by classical fusion dancer Aavinash Payal & famous singer Siddharth Sharma. There was a special performance by Singer Ashar Anis khan who enthralled the audience with his impeccable voice and style.

There is a buzz around the soon to release  ‘ YOG YATRA ‘, a biopic on the life of Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev and his close friend Acharya Balkrishna.  In this film you will find Baba Ramdev donning the actor’s garb shooting, rehearsals, riding the bike enacting his life journey of before being acknowledged as the Yoga Guru and becoming a global icon.

The promo has already garnered great excitement and curiosity among the business and film industry for the nature of its biopic. It is a 90-minutes film, but very meticulously showcases the life and evolution of Baba Ramdev and how he aspires to transform the life of people with yoga and ayurveda.

Sanjana Kapoor & brother Kunal Kapoor judge The International Circus Festival at Rambo Circus !

The whole circus camp at Rambo was alive with a flurry of activities, their favourite mentors from the Kapoor family were to visit to judge the new season of the International Circus Festival.

Most of the artists who double up as operations in-charge were busy setting things in order at the camp right until the bell rang for the show to begin. Then it’s a quick change into the costume and …. action!

Sujit Dilip, owner and manager at Rambo Circus escorted the guests of honour Sanjana Kapoor and Kunal Kapoor to the judges table and the show began.

Awed and enraptured by some very interesting acts on display this season, Sanjana and Kunal cheered every acts, boosting the morale of the humbled artists and adding fervor to the crowd.

Today, the growing popularity of Rambo Circus around the world and its talked about initiatives has made it a sought after destination for circus artists and enthusiasts to visit. This season, Rambo has artists from Azerbaijan, Ethiopia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Colombia besides Nepal and India.

Of course the task of getting permissions, formalities, operation cost still remains as daunting as ever, however, it hasn’t slowed Sujit Dilip, owner of Rambo Circus. In fact he is more determined to overcome all this and is positive that in times to come, Rambo Circus will make history.

Already its website has garnered over 1 lakh visitors and the social media ratings is growing in leaps and bounds, proving how the world is now looking at Indian Circus differently and with more respect.

The Show concluded with a vote of thanks to the judges and offering the public to vote for their favourite act .

The entire circus family gathered for a meet and greet and photo opportunity with their favourite mentors bringing to an end a happy and entertainment evening.

Noted actor Shashi Kapoor visits Rambo’s International Circus Festival

Noted Actor Shashi Kapoor made a rare appearance to see the special show of Rambo Circus and its troupe of international artists in the indoor theatre of Prithivi. Davron Majidov, who is participating in the International Circus Festival from Russia, clearly was awed by the Kapoors and went up to Shashi Kapoor to take his blessings. “ I have been a fan of Mr Raj Kapoor who is very respected back in Russia, so it’s a great honour for me to perform today in front of the Late Raj Kapoor’s family. I am humbled ” said the 19 year old boy.

The entire troupe of Rambo Circus artists crowded around Shashi Kapoor delighted to see him doing well. Shashi Kapoor’s son Kunal and grandson Zahan were also present with Sujit Dilip, owner of Rambo Circus. Each one of the Rambo Circus family went up to Shashi Kapoor for his blessings and being photographed with him. Shashi Kapoorji was happy to indulge and sat through the entire performance.

The show at Prithivi Theatre was a super hit and ran to packed houses.

Teenage protégée, 16 years old, Shivam Tandon develops ‘TRIKE’!! (Innovation, a crossover between a motor cycle & a car)!!!

Shivam Tandon 1Mumbai-based, teenage protégée, 16 years old Master Shivam Tandon develops ‘TRIKE’ ( a crossover between a motor cycle & a car). He is very passionate about Technology, Gadgets, Cars and Innovation. When his family very clearly told him that, they will never let him buy a Motor Cycle as Two Wheelers are very risky. He thought of innovating a ‘TRIKE’, a Three Wheeler Crossover between a Motor Cycle and a Car; thus, very appropriately creating his own ‘TRIKE’, without any Professional Training or Guidance, just as a Hobby.

He started innovating the ‘TRIKE’ during his 2014 Summer Vacations after appearing for his 10th ICSE Board Exams, using a Scrapped Motor Cycle Engine, Front Wheel, Shock Absorbers & Steering handle of a Motor Cycle and Rear Wheels & Axle of a Motor Car. The Chassis & the Body of the ‘TRIKE’ and the supporting System has been indigenously created and designed by himself by procuring materials from the Local Vendors. The ‘TRIKE’ has been Developed and Innovated at a total cost of only Rs 35,000. He has done Test Drive and the ‘TRIKE’ is running smoothly and he is very Happy, Satisfied and Content with his Development and Innovation.

At the age of 12, he participated in Robotics Program held by “Indian Innovators Association” and “Think Labs ROBO.IN, SINE, IIT Bombay, Powai” held at “Reliance Web World, Powai”. He made a Robot along with other Competitors in the Robotics Program and was declared the winner  of the Program.

He had even made a Remote Control Aeroplane, a Car, a Centrifugal Machine and a Motor Boat, when he was only 10 years old.

An avid Soccer enthusiast, he also loves Aero-modeling i.e. Flying Small Airplanes & Helicopters, weather & time permitting.
