Saif Ali Khan gets candid in conversation with CNN’s Talk Asia host Anna Coren

saif aliThis month on ‘Talk Asia’, CNN meets Bollywood’s top actor, Saif Ali Khan. In an honest yet endearing discussion with CNN’s Anna Coren in Mumbai, the 48-year-old actor opens up about his 25-year old Bollywood career, exploring newer platforms like Netflix and raising his son Taimur in the media spotlight with his Bollywood superstar wife Kareena Kapoor.

Khan also speaks about his relationship with his late father Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and his thoughts on inter-faith marriage in today’s day and age. He vividly reminisces about his growing up years where he describes himself as “unpredictable, rebellious and non-traditional”

Key quotes from the interview include:

On his memories of his father, legendary cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan:

‘’I imagine very often you’ll find famous superstars who mean a lot of things to other people, sometimes mean less to their own children, because it’s hard to balance. But he was everything to us and he’s really one of the most ultimate people I have met.’’

On growing up in Bollywood:

‘’There was a time as a kid I was a bit rebellious and unpredictable. But now, everything has settled down so well and I feel wiser and a little enlightened. I think maybe it comes from the reading or thinking, or endless hours sitting around waiting for a shot and contemplating stuff. It has led to a certain amount of comfort and understanding and peace.’’

On his son, Taimur, with actress and wife Kareena Kapoor:

‘’Our job is to keep him balanced. I think Indian parents like us, like my parents, have a slightly tough time trying to put good moral values and basic family values into kids who grow up with too much attention. And it is possible. So, we hope that he’s going to grow up fine and we’re very conscious of it.’’

‘Talk Asia’ is produced by CNN Vision, the global creative production powerhouse of CNN International, which brings the world’s breath-taking diversity into cinematic focus, telling stories that inspire audiences around the world.

President of India reviews passing out parade of 134th course of National Defence Academy

Prez in PuneThe President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, reviewed the passing out parade of the 134th course of the National Defence Academy, this morning (May 30, 2018) in Khadakwasla, near Pune.

Speaking on the occasion, the President said that he was delighted to review the passing out parade at the NDA. As the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, this was a moment of immense satisfaction for him. The Armed Forces are a symbol of excellence and dedication for the entire country. This parade comprises cadets from all parts of India and from a variety of communities. Its harmony speaks for our essential unity as much as for our pluralism as a society.

The President said that a soldier or an officer in uniform, irrespective of whether he or she is from the Army, the Navy or the Air Force, evokes admiration and trust everywhere in the country. If a fellow citizen sees a member of the Armed Forces at a railway station or a market or at any other place, there is an immediate emotion of pride and reassurance. This is due to the unparalleled and unquestioning service to the nation in times of war and peace, on the border or within the country during a natural calamity. The Armed Forces represent the best of the Indian ethos.

The President said that the NDA is more than just a training facility. It is the crucible of valour and bravery. It has inculcated a resolve and a spirit of national service in generations of cadets and generations of officers. It is because of this heritage that in December 1978 President Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy conferred the President’s Colours on the NDA.

Addressing the cadets, the President said that the Armed Forces are not merely about doing a job – they are about answering a calling. And this is a calling for a rare breed of human beings. Today, the cadets have become role models for our young people, guarantors of our peace and prosperity, and guardians of our nation. He expressed confidence that the graduating cadets would prove worthy successors to the unflinching and fearless officers who have preceded them.

Pradeep Sharma introduced as new President of IAAPI

PRADEEP SHARMA IAAPI 2018-19WhiteWater is proud to announce that international amusement industry veteran, Pradeep Sharma, has been appointed to the role of President for the Indian Association of Amusement Parks and Industries (IAAPI).

Sharma has a breadth of experience that spans over 20 years and has seen him work with a variety of international suppliers, lead operations for EsselWorld/Water Kingdom, and run his own company, Bombay Amusement for the last 12 years. As of 2013, he has been helping to develop the waterpark market in India as WhiteWater’s Vice President of Business Development.

One of the many notable projects that Sharma has undertaken was the opening of India’s first international waterpark, Wet N Joy, in Lonavala in 2016. Later in 2018, WhiteWater will install India’s first ever Shoot The Chute water ride at Magic Mountain and will supply all of the new rides for the renovation and expansion of Shanku’s Water Park Resort in Ahmedabad.

This is a great honour for me as this is an industry I have lived and breathed for over 20 years and I look forward to continuing to play a part in helping this sector continue to grow in India. Over the last few years, there has been an influx of iconic new projects and, as the Indian economy continues to grow at an exponential rate, I envision the need for leisure to increase further. In my role as President, I will be responsible for supporting our 350+ members working across government, policymakers, investors, suppliers, manufacturers, and operators to ensure the amusement industry continues to thrive and embrace the latest and safest global attractions and standards,” said Sharma.

pradeep-sharma-e1525225294200.jpgSharma has been a part of IAAPI for 17 years and was the Vice President of IAAPI before assuming his presidential role. He has chaired various committees such as safety, training, and manufacturers and exporters. As the chairman of the safety committee, he has actively contributed to IAAPA’s safety standard harmonization meetings for several years. Sharma also drafted India’s first safety standard for amusement rides (IS 15475 – Amusement Rides Safety) for the Bureau of Indian Standards on behalf of IAAPI, which was adopted and published with few changes.

Pradeep’s knowledge of the market is second to none and the respect and comradery he has amongst his peers, colleagues, and fellow industry experts illustrates that there is no one more befitting this appointment. India has been a symbolic market for WhiteWater since our first project there more than 25 years ago and it is an absolute pleasure and honour to have Pradeep at the helm of our team. He has some big shoes to fill when you consider the profile of IAAPI’s previous presidents, but I have no doubt he will make a huge contribution to the continued evolution of the amusement and water park industry in India,” commented Mike Rigby, WhiteWater’s Regional Vice President of the Middle East and India. This high praise was echoed by WhiteWater’s President and CEO, Geoff Chutter, “This is a great accomplishment reflecting Pradeep’s commitment to the industry. We are incredibly proud of all that he has achieved at WhiteWater and IAAPI. This showcases the global reach of our business and our commitment to this ever-growing market.

IAAPI, founded in 1999, is a non-government, not-for-profit, industry-led and industry-managed organization. It plays a proactive role in representing the interests of amusement parks, theme parks, water parks, and family entertainment centers in India. IAAPI influences decisions of policymakers and investors and leads in an ever-growing amusement industry in India.

Hina looks stunning in a red silk sari along with traditional polki jewelry.  We love that Hina tied her hair in a bun and adorned it with gajra, giving her the quintessential newly bride look.  While Hina’s recent appearances have mostly been in modern gowns and silhouettes, this look was quite a change and we must say we love the way Hina carried herself in this traditional Indian outfit, looking graceful as ever!

Vikram Bhatt’s Production house to launch his own app and create content for the same.

Vikram BhattAce Director and Indian Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt who is known for his work in films, television and the digital space, adds another feather to his hat. Vikram Bhatt is all set to launch his own video on-demand app and his production house ‘Loneranger’ will produce content for this mobile platform.

LONERANGER Productions Pvt. Ltd was established in 2016 to venture into the digital space and instantly gained success because of the popular series produced under the banner such as Gehraiyaan, Maya, Twisted. The production house since its establishment has produced web content and films for digital space, via YouTube and also outsourced content for the Viu application.

In January 2017, VB on the Web, a YouTube platform to showcase the content was commenced and found instant success amongst the audiences with the shows, which were released on the platform. Now taking their digital endeavors further Vikram Bhatt is all set to launch his own ‘VB-Theatre on the web’ app on 27th January 2018 that also marks his birthday.

With this development, the production arm is now geared up to further their imprints in the digital world with the launch of an OTT platform. The app will witness the launch with an original series ‘Untouchables’, which is already in production. This show ‘Untouchables’, directed by Krishna Bhatt and starring Vikram Bhatt himself, will premiere on the OTT platform and shall be followed by ‘Twisted 2’ directed by Anupam Saroj Santosh, stars Nia Sharma in this sequel too. ‘Twisted’ that was put together by the same team, was a great hit in the web world.

What makes this app unique in the market is their subscription module. In this app one can subscribe to the entire app or would have to pay for the shows they would want to watch. This is the first time in India that the viewers would get to pay for particular shows only which they desire to watch and not the entire application. With this, Vikram Bhatt wishes to bring about a change in the digital space and give a choice to the viewers.

Speaking about this Director, producer, and scriptwriter Vikram Bhatt said, ”The move to digital space was obvious, since  everything was moving onto digital. Music was the first thing to move online, books and retail have also gone online in a big way.  It was only a matter of time before Cinemas went online as it offers people the choice to watch their favourite entertainment on the move!    It started with monthly subscription based apps. However the app we are launching is unique. Its actually a multiplex on your phone. So when you download the app, you don’t have to subscribe, you get various shows and each and every show has a ticket price of its own, very much like a multiplex theatre.  You pay for the show you want to watch, making it more affordable and advisable to all.”

This platform will be commercially launched on the 27th of January, 2018

The Philosopher Saint Shri Dnyaneshwara World Peace Prize-2017, given on behalf of World Peace Center (Alandi), MAEER’s MIT World Peace University, Pune, India was conferred upon the HON’BLE ELDER D. TODD CHRISTOFFERSON, Member of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints – Mormon Community, Utah, (USA), in appreciation and recognition of his great yeomen service for championing the Noble Cause of Human Welfare, Communal Harmony and Universal Brotherhood through his unique mission to promote the Culture of Peace in the World.

The conferment ceremony took place at the Swami Vivekananda Mandap at Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University. The Chief Guest at this program was Dr. Michael Noble, Ex-President, Noble Charitable Trust. The award consisted of a golden replica of Saint Shri Dnyaneshwara, a gold medal, certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 5,25,000/- (Five Lakh Twenty Five Thousand Rupees).

Also present at the event were Shri. Babasaheb Purandare, Maharashtra Bhushan, Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad, President, World Peace Centre (Alandi), MAEER’s MIT World Peace University, Nanik Rupani, Chairman, Neutron Electronic Systems, Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, Padma Bhushan & Father of PARAM Supercomputer, Prof. Rahul Karad, Executive President, MIT World Peace University, Hon’ble Father Funk, Elder Robert Williams, Mr. Mathew Holland and Dr. Chandrakant Pandav, Trustee, MAEER’s MIT, Pune.

MNK_6594-1350x734In his acceptance speech, Elder D. Todd Christofferson said, “It is my honour to receive this World Peace Prize in the name of Saint Shri Dnyaneshwara. Our church is grateful to be part of India’s rich diversity of faith traditions. Religion defines and sustains us. For billions of believers it is who we are and how we live. But religion also benefits Nations, communities and policy makers who seek to establish peace and lasting prosperity for all people of all faiths. Religion has a significant effect on national prosperity. Study shows that religion fosters trust, a necessary ingredient for social Cohesion and economic growth. Religious people trust others more. They trust the legal system and government more, they are less willing to break the laws. Trust is an essential element of any well-functioning economy. Religious people are far more trusting than those with merely a secular point of view. Religious people and Institutions are powerful source of humanitarian assistance. People of faith are 40% more likely than non-religious people to give money to Charity and twice as likely to volunteer their services to community organisations. Religious freedom facilitates other types of freedom. Studies have shown that societal restrictions on religion increases interstate conflicts. The Christian community in India, although a minority, generally enjoy safety and peace to develop and contribute to Indian society as well as other faiths in India.”

Dr. Michael Nobel said, “The Nobel Prize in peace is generally considered by the world as the ultimate accolade for peace efforts. But there are other prestigious awards and one of them is the World Peace Prize given by MIT World Peace University and is considered as the foremost peace activity award in this country. The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints is unique in several regards. The areas in which the organisation excels are they assure peace and Unity within family structures. They hava a strict imposition of honour codes in which no gambling, smoking or drinking is allowed, it is also a great range of scope of humanitarian efforts on a worldwide scale and their expensive and practical work with refugees to ensure their livelihood and possibilities of survival in a foreign country is commendable.”

Babasaheb Purandare said, “Today is an auspicious day as we are felicitating a senior and wiser man like Elder D. Todd Christofferson. His name starts with the world ‘elder’ and ends with the word ‘son’. The power of both the words can be seen within him. If pasaydan is written under the logo of any other religion it will sound the same and will relate itself appropriately to that religion. This is the beauty of pasaydan. We should love the world. The world ‘love’ truly resembles religion.”

Vishwanath Karad said, “We are delighted to honour Elder D. Todd Christofferson with the World Peace Prize. He has dedicated his life to the service of the society. Today we have come for common cause to promote peace and culture in this world. This is a small beginning. This institution has followed the steps of Swami Vivekananda. I have a hope that in the future the education system will be based on the union of Science and spirituality.”

Prof. Rahul Karad gave the introductory speech and the program was compeered by Prof. Gautam Bapat.

B Radhakrishna-Pillai-(Dir,-Chanakya-Institute),-Nanik-Rupani-(Neutron-Electronic),-Prof-Rahul-Karad-(MIT,-Pune),-Dr-Seema-Rao-(1st-Woman-Commando-Trainer)-BLOGIn the midst of all the talks to strengthen our democracy, the educated youth of India, even today, hardly considers politics as a career option. Their reluctance to fill in the positions of political leadership might slow down the process of strengthening our democracy. Therefore in order to bridge the gap between educated youth and political leadership, MAEER’s MIT School of Government (MIT-SOG) has proposed & appealed to the Honorable Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi, through a letter, to start Institutions of National Importance for Political Leadership & Governance. MIT-SOG has urged the Prime Minister that the Indian Institute of Political Leadership & Governance (IIPLG), comparable with IITs & IIMs in quality, be established in all states of India as Institutions of National Importance. The proposed institutions of IIPLG ideally should be run in a collaborative structure of respective State Legislative Assemblies, Both the House of Indian Parliament – Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha, Government of India and Private educational entities.

To take this particular vision ahead, the letter also appeals to initiate an All India Legislature Congress (AILC), a 3-day annual national conference under the aegis of Lok Sabha and Prime Minister’s patronage.

FICCI FRAMES-2017 – Lack of cinema screens, piracy, high ticket prices at multiplexes & new movies on TV reducing the number of footfalls in cinemas houses

Is Bollywood in trouble? Will Hollywood and Regional take over? Is Indian Cinema in any kind of trouble?

Piracy, high pricing of tickets at multiplexes. lack of cinema screens and new movies being broadcasted on television three months after release have reduced the number of footfalls in the cinemas considerably and was making it difficult to raise the market share.

However, there is good news yet !  The emergence of digital platforms has opened new vistas for monetization for movies.

Even though regional cinema is being aggressively promoted by state governments by way of various sops, Bollywood  can benefit if we could raise the TV viewing window of new movies to six months instead of the current three months.   Lack of screens in the country and high price of tickets coupled with the fact the audience for Hollywood movies was increasing and giving a tough competition to Hindi cinema.   Models were being worked upon to maintain a balance.

The solution is simple, we need a strong trade bodies to combat piracy and with the help of committed and passionate producers and stakeholders to push the agenda,  Piracy can be reduced by the cause being championed by effective global leaders who could take the fight ahead.

Also if all types of cinemas are marketed and given due visibility as is the case with big budgeted films, the audience who are alienated by multiplies as they were removing a certain type of cinema for which there was an audience base, we will experience more footfalls in the theatre.

The session was moderated by Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios. Participating members were Samir Nair, Group CEO, Balaji Telefilms, Venky Mysore, CEO, Red Chillies Entertainment, Ajit Andhare, COO, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Suresh Babu, President, Telugu Film Chamber Of Commerce.
